- A+ Technician Certification
SouthCoast Center for Professional Development offers an extensive program of education and training to prepare candidates for 2009 A+ Certification, a testing program sponsored by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). The program consists of classroom instruction followed by several hours of instructor-led lab time. (Additional lab time is available throughout the course at the student’s request.)
A+ Certification certifies the competency of service technicians in the computer industry. The certification program is backed by major computer hardware and software vendors, distributors, resellers and publications, as well as a leading industry service organization, the Association of Field Service Management, Inc.
- To receive a CompTIA A+ certification, one needs to pass the Essentials exam (220-701) and the Practical Application exam (220-702). Please read the descriptions below for further explanation.
CompTIA A+ 220-701 Essentials -
- • The CompTIA A+ Essentials examination measures necessary competencies for an entry-level IT professional with the equivalent knowledge of at least 500 hours of hands-on experience in the lab or field. Successful candidates will have the knowledge required to understand the fundamentals of computer technology, networking, and security, and will have the skills required to identify hardware, peripheral, networking, and security components. Successful candidates will understand the basic functionality of the operating system and basic troubleshooting methodology, practice proper safety procedures, and will effectively interact with customers and peers.
CompTIA A+ 220-702 Practical Application -
- The CompTIA A+ Practical Application exam measures the necessary competencies for an entry-level IT professional who has hands-on experience in the lab or the field. Successful candidates will have the skills required to install, configure, upgrade, and maintain PC workstations, the Windows OS and SOHO networks. The successful candidate will utilize troubleshooting techniques and tools to effectively and efficiently resolve PC, OS, and network connectivity issues and implement security practices. Job titles in some organizations which are descriptive of the role of this individual may be: Enterprise technician, IT administrator, field service technician, PC or Support technician, etc.
